OnClickCloset brings in a Kummattikali performer from the future to tell stories from years ahead. Traditionally Kummattikali is a colorful mask dance of Kerala. During festivals, performers move from house to house collecting small gifts and entertaining people. The body is normally tied up with layers of leaves. Here in this dystopian setting of Kerala, the leaves are minimal and feigned, indicating the inevitable environmental destruction caused due to human behavior in the now. The prancing indicates a disturbing dance influenced by the mishappenings of the future. The body is burning in lava to show the devastation caused by calamities coming with climate change. Through the art form stories like Ramayan, Mahabharata, and that of Shiva are told. We narrate the story of everyday humans, and of today’s gods in the industries whose actions led to greater demolition of the land we live. The Dance is uncontrollable and cathartic, expressing the performer’s distressed mind due to the events of the future.
